Slow down, Cambridge. The City of Cambridge has released its 2025 Speed Management Action Plan to improve road safety, reduce speeding, and protect vulnerable road users—especially near schools. Among its key decisions, Council approved the installation of ten new speed cameras across the city.

According to city documents, these cameras will be installed at the following locations:

  • St. Andrew's Street

  • Elgin Street North

  • Main Street

  • Franklin Boulevard

  • Can-Amera Parkway

  • Samuelson Street

  • Myers Road

  • Avenue Road

  • Saginaw Parkway

  • Holiday Inn Drive

These sites were selected based on traffic data showing high-speed violations in school zones and residential areas.

In addition to enforcement-based tools like speed cameras, Cambridge continues to implement community-driven measures in areas with moderate speeding concerns. This includes visual cues like Tommy & Friends—child-shaped signs placed along streets to raise driver awareness—along with radar message boards and targeted police enforcement.

While staff noted that the current speed management program is stretching resources thin, they also emphasized the need to shift from a reactive system to a more proactive, data-driven approach. A broader Road Safety Review is expected to come forward in 2026.
