A Personal Beginning
Hello and welcome to EBY News! This is our first blog, and the beginning of a long story.
My name is Eren Berke Yoruk, founder of EBY News. I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself and share the story behind this brand.
My connection to storytelling started long before I ever thought of becoming a journalist. As a child, I was drawn to the power of stories, whether through books, radio, or television, because they connected people and gave meaning to everyday life. Over time, this fascination turned into a passion. I pursued studies in radio, television, and later broadcasting, learning not only how stories are told but also how they can shape communities.

When I moved to Canada to continue my education in media, I noticed a clear shift: younger audiences were no longer relying on TV or newspapers as their main news source. Instead, they turned to Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. At first, this seemed like a simple change in habits. But I quickly realized it represented something much bigger, the future of journalism itself.
That observation led me to ask a question I’ve carried ever since: “Can journalism keep its trust and depth while speaking the language of a new digital generation?”
EBY News is my answer to that question.
The Birth of EBY News
EBY News takes its name from my initials, Eren Berke Yoruk. By putting my name on the brand, I wanted to highlight accountability, responsibility, and a direct connection with the community I serve. I also want this brand to continue delivering the truth as my legacy, even when I am away.
Founded in 2024 in Kitchener, EBY News is a digital-first news outlet with a clear mission: to blend the credibility of legacy media with the speed and creativity of social platforms.
Our logo reflects that philosophy. The red line represents innovation and freedom, values tied to the fast-paced and ever-changing world of social media. The blue line stands for trust and accuracy, qualities long associated with traditional journalism. These two lines run parallel, pointing forward, symbolizing our vision to bring two worlds together and move toward the truth.
Why Social Media News Matters
The way we consume news has transformed drastically. According to a 2024 survey by The Dais, 56% of Canadians still watch TV for news, 43% rely on websites, and 42% turn to social media. But when Pollara Strategic Insights asked young Canadians, the results told a different story: 57% rely on social media for news, while only 23% watch TV.
This generational shift cannot be ignored. Younger audiences don’t just want to read a headline; they want to see, hear, and interact with news in real time. They scroll through TikTok, swipe through Instagram stories, and comment directly under posts. But with that accessibility comes a challenge: not everything online is reliable.
That’s where EBY News steps in. We merge the accessibility of social platforms with the rigor of professional reporting. We fact-check, cite sources, and provide context, without losing the creativity and speed that digital audiences crave.
